Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football with community service. The first time Selmon was raised with Lucious and Jessie Selmon, on a farm near Eufala in Oklahoma as the youngest of their nine children. In football, he played with three of his brothers from Oklahoma. Three of them made All-America. They made the All-America team in 1973. Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi Award as the nation's best lineman. In the three years that Roy played as a player, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, he received his third scholarship, and was named a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon obtained a degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth service consisted of ten hours a week as a volunteer in college. He settled down in Tampa following college. He played with the Buccaneers for a period of nine years, and played three times in the all-pro league. His career in business began. By 1988, he became an Account Relation Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following organisations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds in the time he played football at college. He was a captain in 1975. was the captain of the group. In 1993 he joined his current position at University of South Florida as the associate director of athletics. Selmon has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor, who awarded this award.
