Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada but grew up in the U.S. She has worked as a media critic since 1995. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos which include commentary on the depictions of women in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are represented in the pop culture. Alongside working to highlight the problems surrounding the targeted and sexist assaults on women and as well as other minorities, she is determined to break down the stigmas and stereotypes in the pop culture. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Apart from being a popular public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. When she was a student at the university Sarkeesian was interested in the issues surrounding gender equality and the rights of women in the early stages. She had a plan to start an internet-based series on gender representation in games, however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. However, the attacks did not hinder her. She was only able to strengthen her position in her role as a feminist journalist. To honor the numerous contributions she has made to feminism, she is awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won several awards and founded Feminist Frequency as an educational nonprofit that studies how women are represented in popular culture narratives.
