
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and a singer who performed for over 40 years. A torch-singer renowned for her gorgeous, sultry contralto singing, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 between the years 1955 and 1969. Inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 was her rendition of "Cry Me a River", a track that she had introduced to her debut album. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her portrayal in Emergency The Adventures of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her first professional job was as an actress while she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's acting career of 35 years began with film in 1944. It included roles in the lead female role in several westerns. In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. In 1969, she released her last studio album. However, she continued to be prominent in the emergency series in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) The show was married to her husband Bobby Troup. The show was produced by her former husband Jack Webb.
